Your golfing map… how many can you tick off?

The sometimes challenging step up from junior to full golf membership has been made easier at Mottram Hall, Cheshire’s leading four-star golf resort, with the introduction of two intermediate categories.
Mottram Hall, managed by Redefine|BDL Hotels (RBH), began offering free memberships to junior golfers earlier this year, in a move which proved hugely popular.
And it highlighted to the resort’s head of golf, Robert Warrener, the need for a procedure to be in place to allow young golfers to prepare for full membership in stages, with the fees set accordingly.
So the venue has created two intermediate, seven-day membership categories: for 18 to 21-year-olds and for those aged 22 to 25, costing just £200 and £450, respectively.
Warrener explained: “When a junior golfer turns 18, it seems ridiculous that they should be deemed to be in a position to suddenly be able to afford a full membership – and this is, undoubtedly, one of the big reasons why young golfers stop playing in such big numbers.
“One can’t expect an 18-year-old to automatically gain access to a regular, healthy income. In this day and age many will go on to further education and even those who do have a job will probably be earning only a little more than the minimum wage.
“It’s beholden on those of us in the industry to smooth that process, so by introducing these two new categories our young golfers at Mottram Hall can see a defined and, importantly, a more affordable path into golfing adulthood.”
The intermediate memberships offer full seven-day privileges, with the golfer’s age the only determining parameters.
Mottram Hall – managed by RBH, the UK’s leading independent hotel-management company – sits in 270 acres of Cheshire’s finest parkland, one mile from the picturesque village of Prestbury, and was the host venue for the 2013 European Seniors PGA Championship.
The 7,006 yard, par-72 Championship Course – comprising magnificent parkland fairways dotted with oak and beech trees, and tricky, well-guarded greens – is broken up into two contrasting circuits of nine. The front nine, with its impressive backdrop of the 18th century hall, gently rolls over meadowland and offers the golfer many chances to make a score. The back nine winds through some lush woodland and is a much more demanding test of golf.
The RBH portfolio offers championship-standard courses in unique resort locations including Slaley Hall – voted ‘Best Golf Hotel/Resort in the North of England’ for the third successive year in the 2017 Today’s Golfer Travel Awards and host of 18 European Tour and European Seniors Tour events – Belton Woods and Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort.
